BAPTISM FAQ’s

Here are some answers to the regular questions we get asked about Baptism and the process– we hope its helps.

What is the difference between Baptism and Christening?
There is no difference! Baptism is the original Biblical word, Christening is an Old English word meaning the same thing.

How much does it costs?
There are no fees.

What about adult baptism?
We would love to talk with you about your desire to be baptised.  Please get in touch with Helen Smedley by phone or email (see details above)

In which Church service are babies baptised?
We baptise young children at our family-friendly 9.30 service on the 3rd Sundays in the month.

Can I have my baby baptised at St Mary’s?
First we need to know where you live, to find out if you are in the parish. Officially we can only baptise children who either live in the parish or have a connection with the church. This connection could be that you are a regular worshipper here, were baptised or married here in the church. Either yourself or your partner – or better both of you – need to be baptised already. If this isn’t the case we have a course to guide you through that process.

I live in the Parish or I have some connections with the Church, what do I do next?
Contact us (hlsimcock@gmail.com) and visit our 9.30 service. Then make yourself known to Helen and she will organise a visit with our baptisms visitor to have a chat about what it means to bring your child to baptism and help you through the whole process. Then we can talk through an appropriate date for your child’s baptism.
