St Mary’s Church, Rushden is celebrating this year’s HERITAGE OPEN DAYS from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th September with open access, guided tours, numerous events and exhibitions acomplemented by a variety of refreshments.
Church services will be held as usual on
Thursday 9th at 10.30am (Holy Communion);
and on Sunday 12th
at 8.00am (Holy Communion);
9.30am (All Age Contemporary Worship); 11.15am (Morning Prayer) and
6.00pm (Evening Prayer) in the Pemberton Chapel.
The 11.15am service will follow the 1662 Prayer Book, with robed choir, organ and use hymns and anthems chosen to show off the brilliant heritage of English Church music. The bells will be rung before this service and the evening service. All are welcome to any service.
On Thursday afternoon guided tours will begin and continue over the weekend. Among our guides you may spot Captain David Hawker better known locally for his appearances in the Harry Potter films and Robin Hood.
On Friday and Saturday the Church Records and Registers, some dating back to the sixteenth century, will be available to view in the Pemberton Chapel from 10.00-4.00pm with the assistance of our hugely knowledgeable Verger.
From 11.00am – 2.30pm the Church Hall will be transformed into a Bistro, serving hot and cold drinks, delicious soups and desserts.
On Saturday Friends of St Mary’s provide a programme of events [alongside escorted visits to the Bell Chamber] which will feature a display of Birds of Prey from
Icarus Falconry in the morning and with traditional crafts on show, including wood and stone carving, and lace-making.
Young people can hunt for ‘Angels & Demons’
among the Church’s wood and stone carvings.
Hot lunches, bacon butties and afternoon tea will be available from 10.00-4.00pm.
Entrance on all days is free.
Disabled access is available from the car park in Park Place which will be reserved for access and Blue Badge parking – would other visitors please use the town car parks in Newton Rdand John Street. Thank you.
